Joe Paterno Passes Away at 85.

Joe Paterno 1926-2012

It has been confirmed that a football legend has passed this morning.

Penn State’s former football coach, Joe Paterno, has passed earlier this morning. The 85 year old coach who is known for winning more games than any other major-college football coach suffered from lung cancer. He was diagnosed in November of last year after he was let go by Penn State for his involvement in Jerry Sandusky’s sex abuse scandal (Many people felt he should have done more to stop it from happening). His family released a statement:

“He died as he lived. He fought hard until the end, stayed positive, thought only of others and constantly reminded everyone of how blessed his life had been. His ambitions were far reaching, but he never believed he had to leave this Happy Valley to achieve them. He was a man devoted to his family, his university, his players and his community.”

Paterno made many accomplishments as the head coach of Penn State’s football team. He a national coach of the year five times. He also had five unbeaten/untied teams, as well as leading Penn State to be ranked No. 1 in both 1982 and 1986.

R.I.P. Joe “JoePa” Paterno
